dj Mike-a-nay and dj hedda on PRA!
Check it out: taking turns on PRA's Thursday 2 pm to 4 pm slot are Rimsky's own servers/djs/wonderchildren, hedda and Mike-a-nay. hedda's show is called Hopscotch Radio, and Mike-a-nay hosts Dumpster Dive Disco. While they play much different kinds of music on their shows, hedda and Mike-a-nay comfortably inhabit and share this single slot on PRA. Check out their shows, streaming live (and soon, stored in podcasts available for listening of PRA's website) every Thursday afternoon on praradio.com!
Mike-a-nay can also be found emcee'ing various music events around town (including a recent special edition of Dumpster Dive Disco at the bar Crush, around the corner from Rimsky's).
Goody in Portland Monthly
Here's a tip for fans of the coffeehouse: Keep an eye out for the latest issue of Portland Monthly magazine... it contains an interview-profile of Rimsky's proprietess and lead magician, Goody Cable. And while it's true we might make you wait a little extra time for your borgia, it's only so that you'll have extra time to contemplate the Alphabet Project's reincarnation for the coffeehouse's 26th birthday.
What's this, you ask?
For the 26th birthday of Rimsky's, Goody is over-seeing the creation of 26 art installations, each one themed around a letter of our alphabet. The first letter is already installed in the coffeehouse - it's F, fyi - and one after another letter will be created and displayed in the coffeehouse as the 26th anniversary (October 3rd) nears. Come and enjoy!
TBA:06 ---- Tahni performs!

PICA's TBA:06 begins this week, and Tahni (one of Rimsky's servers, shown above in an un-serious pose in our kitchen, shortly before she was part of a dance contest around the corner at Holocene) will be performing in it. This is *must-see* dance, trust us. Tahni will be performing a piece called 'Room,' scored by noted choreographer Deborah Hay. Tahni's performances take place Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at PCPA's Brunish Hall.... we expect to see you there!
Aaron Goldhammer on Monday Nights
Please join us in welcoming our newest regular musician, guitarist Aaron Goldhammer to the coffeehouse. Aaron keeps us energized with his focused, thoughtful compositions on Monday evenings. He has been playing for us for several months and though we're late in blog-acknowledging him, we're happy he is with us!

Here's a photo of local classical quartet In Like A Lion, Out Like A Lamb playing a concert at the coffeehouse Wednesday. While the photo isn't so good (click on it to enlarge as always), the music was wonderful, as the band played a slate of melancholy, even mournful, Eastern European-influenced pieces. We don't have another show scheduled for this wonderful ensemble yet, but we hope to have them back and will let you know as soon as they agree to play for us again!--Rimsky

Here's a picture of Olga, one of our favorite coffeehouse customers, spending some time with her favorite legendary composer, Erik Satie, who was visiting the coffeehouse from Paris this past weekend. Please send your Rimsky photos to us at rimskyhouse@yahoo.com, and as always, click on the picture to see it full-size! Thanks, Olga, for sending this photo in!
